Step 1: Launch Your Web Browser and Open the Google Takeout Site

After selecting "Drive", click on the "Next step" button at the bottom of the page. You will see a page where you can choose your delivery method and file type. You can choose one of the following delivery methods:


  • Send download link via email: This will send you an email with a link to download your data when it's ready.



  • Add to Drive: This will add a ZIP file with your data to your Google Drive when it's ready.



  • Add to Dropbox: This will add a ZIP file with your data to your Dropbox account when it's ready.



  • Add to OneDrive: This will add a ZIP file with your data to your OneDrive account when it's ready.



  • Add to Box: This will add a ZIP file with your data to your Box account when it's ready.



You can also choose the file type and size for your export. You can choose either ZIP or TGZ as the file type, and either 1 GB, 2 GB, 4 GB, 10 GB, or 50 GB as the file size. If your data is larger than the file size you choose, it will be split into multiple files.


Step 4: Wait for Your Download Link to Arrive via Email




After choosing your delivery method and file type, click on the "Create export" button at the bottom of the page. You will see a progress bar that shows the status of your export. Depending on the size of your data, it may take some time to complete. When it's done, you will receive an email with a link to download your data. The link will expire after seven days, so make sure to download it before then.


Step 5: Download the ZIP File to Your Computer




Click on the link in the email and follow the instructions to download the ZIP file to your computer. The ZIP file will have a name like "takeout-20210621T012248Z-001.zip" where 20210621T012248Z is the date and time of export. After downloading it, you can extract the files or folders from the ZIP file by using a program like WinZip or 7-Zip.

If you want to download files that were created or edited with Google Docs, Sheets, or Slides from Google Drive to your computer, you can do so with the Backup and Sync app or the web browser. However, unlike downloading other types of files or folders, downloading Docs, Sheets, or Slides will require you to convert them into a compatible format for your computer. Here are the steps for both methods:


Step 1: Launch Google Drive on Your Desktop

Step 2: Find the Doc, Sheet, or Slide You Want to Download

In the Backup and Sync app, you can right-click the file you want to download and choose "Download as" from the menu. In the web browser, you can right-click the file you want to download and choose "Download as" from the menu. Alternatively, you can select the file and click the "Download as" button on the toolbar.


Step 4: Choose a Compatible Format for Your File




In both methods, you will see a submenu that shows different formats for your file. You can choose one of the following formats:


  • For Docs: Microsoft Word (.docx), OpenDocument Format (.odt), Rich Text Format (.rtf), PDF Document (.pdf), Plain Text (.txt), Web Page (.html), or EPUB Publication (.epub).



  • For Sheets: Microsoft Excel (.xlsx), OpenDocument Spreadsheet (.ods), PDF Document (.pdf), Web Page (.html), Comma-separated values (.csv), Tab-separated values (.tsv), or ZIP archive of .csv files.



  • For Slides: Microsoft PowerPoint (.pptx), OpenDocument Presentation (.odp), PDF Document (.pdf), Plain Text (.txt), JPEG Image (.jpg), PNG Image (.png), Scalable Vector Graphics (.svg), or ZIP archive of .svg files.
